How does changing a part number impact reporting and historical data

Problem

When the system setting in system Configuration > Inventory - LockPartNo is un-ticked, the part number field in Inventory Maintenance is then editable.  When a part number is changed without updating historical data then reports like sales reports run the risk of being inaccurate.

 

Solution

The standard plugin Inventory Maintenance - Rename Part No. handles this situation.  When enabled, it detects when the Part No. field has been changed in Inventory Maintenance, and upon save, will update numerous tables in the system which store a PartNo with the new Part No.

By default, the plugin is disabled. To enable, do the following


  1. System Settings > Plugins > Plugin Maintenance

  2. Load the search window and select the plugin Inventory Maintenance - Rename Part No

  3. Tick the Enabled check box and save

  4. Log out and back in again for the plugin to compile
