Logging In
Launch Jiwa from your desktop by double-clicking the Jiwa icon. Alternatively, click the Jiwa icon at Start Menu->All Programs->Jiwa Financials->Jiwa. Windows 10 users can simply click the start button, type "jiwa", and click the Jiwa desktop app icon that was found.
After launching Jiwa, the login screen will be displayed:
If this is the first time that Jiwa has been run on this machine under this windows login, then a demonstration database called JiwaDemo is automatically created (in the form of a Localdb) and a connection entry constructed to point to it. To log in to this demonstration database, ensure that the "Authentication" type is set to "Jiwa Authentication", enter "Admin" as the "Login:" value and "password" as the "Password:", and then click on the "Connect" button.
If there are no available connections in the "Connection Name:" drop-down, you need to create one. Please see Creating a Connection for instruction on creating a new connection.
If you need to create a Jiwa database, either a clean demonstration database or a new empty database, please see Managing Databases.
There are three different authentication modes that Jiwa supports:
Jiwa Authentication - The username and password of the user is stored (securely) in Jiwa. Both the username and password is defined on the Staff Maintenance (System Settings->Staff Configuration->Staff Maintenance) screen.
Windows Authentication - Only the Windows username is stored in Jiwa. The Windows username is entered in the Staff Maintenance (System Settings->Staff Configuration->Staff Maintenance) screen, but not the password. When logging in Jiwa will communicate with Windows (i.e. a domain controller) to authenticate the user.
Either - Jiwa Authentication or Windows Authentication can be used by the user when logging in to Jiwa. For this option, Jiwa must have the Jiwa username and password, as well as the users Windows username (the Windows password is not required).
